Chelsea vs. Manchester United results, highlights & analysis as Casemiro nets injury-time equalizer to deny Blues

KUPASONLINE.COM — Casemiro came to Manchester United’s rescue with an injury-time header to ensure the points were shared at Stamford Bridge after Jorginho looked to have given Chelsea a vital win.

This is the most drawn fixture in Premier League history – failing to find a winner on 26 occasions – so it was no surprise when the Brazilian popped up with a late equalizer to ensure Erik ten Hag’s side left west London with the draw they deserved.

United had dominated possession during the first half but failed to make the most of their chances in the final third, with Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga making several fine stops.

Chelsea came out firing in the second half after manager Graham Potter tinkered with his formation before the break, bringing on midfielder Mateo Kovacic for fullback Marc Cucurella. But it was one of Ten Hag’s substitutions that almost decided the outcome of the match.

Scott McTominay was introduced on 80 minutes and just four minutes later he clumsily wrestled Armando Broja to the floor in the box with his arms wrapped round the striker to gift Chelsea a penalty.

Up stepped Jorginho to convert with ease and send the home crowd into a frenzy, only for Casemiro to have the last laugh in injury-time after Kepa narrowly failed to keep out his header.

There was a worrying moment for United during the second half when defender Raphael Varane went down after stretching to make a clearance and had to be helped from the pitch in tears.

A serious injury would make Varane a major doubt for France’s World Cup campaign. Ten Hag said afterwards that the extent of the issue was unclear but would be known within 24 hours.

The Blues stay one point and one place above United in fourth, occupying the final Champions League spot in the Premier League table
