The recent leak of 10 billion passwords caused quite a stir in the cyber world. Especially since this global leak means there could be date including you—that got exposed in this incident.
A recent study by Kaspersky revealed that 87 million types of passwords can be cracked in less than a minute. This means that many people still don’t understand the importance of having a strong password combination to keep accounts secure and hard to hack.
Password combinations like Admin#1234 are among the easiest to break into, and passwords with sequential numbers, common names, or words like admin, ahmed, forever, and others are very easy to guess.
Therefore, you are advised to create a combination of more than 8 characters consisting of letters (preferably words that are not in the dictionary), numbers (not in sequence), and symbols.
To know how strong your password is, you can check it on the following sites.
Cyber Security Agency (CSA) Singapore
Go to the CSA Singapore website or click this link.
Enter your password combination.
You will then get an estimate of the time it would take to crack your password.
Kaspersky Password Checker
Go to the Kaspersky Password Checker website or click this link.
Enter your password combination.
You will get information on whether your password is secure or not.
You will also find out if the password has appeared on the dark web or in data breaches.
These are two ways to check if your password is strong or not. As additional information, the longer and more complicated your password combination, the harder it will be to guess. (*)
